Water Stain Repair for Walls and Ceilings.

Water stains on walls and ceiling caused by occasional, minor water leaks are simple to repair.

Use shellac or primer–sealer to block the stain so that it won't bleed thru the touch–up paint. A spray can of white primer will make covering with white finish paint easier. Coat the stain twice to be sure it is completely sealed. Wait 10 minutes between coats and let the second coat dry for 15 or 20 minutes.

Use the same paint to touch-up as was originally used to paint the surface. See Paint Touch-Up for more.

Wait for the finish paint to dry and apply a second coat if necessary.
